Each year, the world marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day to commemorate the six million Jews (and countless other non-Jewish victims: Romani people, gay men, people with disabilities, non-Jewish Poles, Jehovah's Witnesses, and many more) killed by the Nazi regime.
Throughout the day on KBACH, we'll pause for a few minutes to musically reflect. You'll hear Isaac Nathan's "O Weep for Those," Mischa Spoliansky's "Weeping (Lament)" from the Symphony in Five Movements, and "Supplication" and "Prayer" from Ernest Bloch's From Jewish Life.
"The International Day in memory of the victims of the Holocaust is thus a day on which we must reassert our commitment to human rights ... We must also go beyond remembrance, and make sure that new generations know this history. We must apply the lessons of the Holocaust to today's world." - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, 2008
